Grow Your Food, Grow Your Health

Fourth Grow Your Health Festival on March 5.

The Grow Your Health Festival will be on Saturday, March 5 at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

A project of the Northern Virginia Whole-Food Nutrition Meetup Group, the festival presents 60 exhibitors, plus learning opportunities and more for home gardening, sourcing organic and local food, and nutrition and wellness for adults and children.

Classes and talks on gardening, nutrition and wellness will be offered through the day in the exhibit hall of farmers, food artisans, gardening services, and wellness products and services. Learn to start a garden and know exactly what goes into the foods you eat. Holistic techniques to achieve better health will also be covered.

Attendees can also meet farmers who sell direct to consumers and deliver weekly to convenient drop sites throughout Northern Virginia. There will also be an opportunity to shop in the 2016 Pre-season Farmers Market and a viewing of the documentary “Growing Cities.”

For young farmers and gardeners, there will be activities, such as, kids’ yoga, indoor recess and quiet floor play.

Admission ticket of $10 (online) or $15 at the door includes all activities. Admission is free to children 16 and under.

This is the fourth Grow Your Health Festival. Jack Moore, leader of the Northern Virginia Whole-Food Nutrition Meetup Group said, “This event is important for learning of the benefits of local, organic, foods, and for the contributions we’re able to make to foster the whole-food perspective on good nutrition.”

Proceeds from the Grow Your Health Festival will benefit the Weston A. Price Foundation and local nonprofits that share the festival’s mission.

The GYH Festival is organized by the Northern Virginia Whole-Food Nutrition Meetup Group (http://www.meetup.com/WholeNutrition/), which has more than 1,500 members. The group is devoted to sharing sources and education for locally-based food and options to gain best nutrition and health practices.
