To the Editor:
As someone who bikes between Old Town and Chinquapin several times a week, I like having the bike lanes on King Street, and hope that they can be extended further West on King Street (and the road re-surfaced for a smoother ride). I would hope that the purpose of adding bike lanes, and making other bike-friendly changes, in Alexandria would be to encourage more people to ride bikes, not just to accommodate those of us
who already use our bikes for transportation.
A visit to Portland, Oregon will show you what can be done when bike lanes are emphasized, and car traffic lanes are designed to accommodate the bike lanes. It makes for a much more pleasant experience for everyone.
