Crash Reconstruction detectives are investigating a fatal crash that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Dec. 23. Officers were called to the 7200 block of Ordway Road for a car that had overturned. An investigation determined a 31-year-old man from Manassas was driving a Toyota Scion southbound on Ordway Road. He had one passenger in the car, a 22-year-old woman.
According to police, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed over the double yellow lines to pass a vehicle. The driver lost control of the car and ran off the road. The Scion rolled and the passenger was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Once he was medically cleared, he was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Both speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the crash. Additional charges could be placed pending further investigation.
