Deadline for Nominations for MCC Board

Friday, March 17, at 5 p.m. is the filing deadline for the McLean Community Center’s (MCC) 2017-2018 Governing Board elections. Residents of Dranesville Small Tax District 1A who are interested in running for a seat on the board can still enter the race. The Board sets policy and provides general oversight for MCC facilities, which include the Robert Ames Alden Theatre and the Old Firehouse Center. MCC is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

All residents of the Center’s tax district are eligible to run for a seat on the 11-member board. Candidates are required to obtain the signatures of 10 McLean tax district residents in order to have their names placed on the election ballot. Nominating petition forms are available at MCC.

Three adult positions and two youth positions are open this year. Adult board members serve three-year terms. Youth members serve one-year terms. Adult candidates must be at least 18 years old as of McLean Day on Saturday, May 20. Youth candidates must be 15-17 years old as of McLean Day. One youth member who lives within the McLean High School boundary area will be elected; one youth member who lives within the Langley High School boundary area will be elected. Youth candidates are not required to attend either school; however, they must reside in the boundary areas served by one of the schools as defined by Fairfax County Public Schools.

Residents of the tax district may cast their votes in the election between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the McLean Day 2017 festival at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Road. Adults may vote for up to three adult candidates, and youth may vote for one youth candidate from the Langley High School boundary area and one candidate from the McLean High School boundary area. Residents may vote by absentee ballot. Applications for absentee ballots will be available at the Center and at the Old Firehouse Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, from Monday, April 10, through Wednesday, May 17.

Key Dates for Candidates

  • Friday, March 17, by 5 p.m.: Petition Packets must be returned to MCC.

  • Monday, April 10, at 9 a.m.: Absentee Voting begins at MCC's off-site administrative offices in the McLean Square Shopping Center, 6631 Old Dominion Drive, and The Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Road.

  • Sunday, May 7, 3-5 p.m.: Meet the Candidates reception sponsored by Friends of the MCC at The Old Firehouse.

  • Wednesday, May 17 at 5 p.m.: Absentee Voting ends at the MCC administrative offices and The Old Firehouse.

  • Saturday, May 20, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.: Board Elections Voting at McLean Day 2017.

  • Wednesday, June 7: First Meeting of the 2017-2018 MCC Governing Board.
