Vienna Police Highlights Sept. 7 – Sept. 13, 2018

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from Sept. 7 – Sept. 13, 2018.

INCIDENTS

Fraud -- 300 Block Ayr Hill Avenue, NE Aug. 29 between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. A resident reported unauthorized transactions made to one of her credit card accounts.

Petit Larceny -- 900 Block Cottage Street, SW Between Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 6 at 8:15 a.m. A resident reported an unknown person entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a gift card.

Destruction of Property -- The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE Between Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. and Sept. 8 at 3:45 a.m. An unknown person damaged several vehicles that were left legally parked in the parking lot.

Noise Violation -- The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE Sept. 8, 12 a.m. A resident reported loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. Officers responded to the area of the complaint and the establishment but did not observe any noise violation.

Suspicious Event -- 7-11 537 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 8, 12:18 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute between a man and woman. The woman called for a ride to transport her home. The man left the area without further incident.

Natural Death -- 300 Block Branch Road SE Between Sept. 8 at 6 a.m. and Sept. 9 at 6 a.m. Officers responded with rescue personnel for the report of a man who was found deceased in his home. The man suffered from known medical issues.

Arrest – Drunk In Public -- W&OD Bike Trail near Park Street, SE, Sept. 8, 6:42 p.m. Officers responded with rescue personnel for a medical emergency involving a bicyclist on the bike trail. As rescue personnel provided treatment to the injured man, the officers spoke to his friend to obtain additional information. The friend showed signs of impairment and became disorderly with the officers. PFC Williams arrested the 49-year-old man from Madenhair Drive in Gainesville. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk In Public. The injured man, who had fallen off his bicycle, was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital for further treatment.

Arrest – Warrant Service -- Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West, Sept. 9, 6:43 a.m. An employee requested assistance with a man who was trespassing in the hotel lobby. Officers identified the man and found he was wanted in Fairfax County on two warrants. MPO Finelli arrested the 38-year-old man, who had no fixed address. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the warrants, charging larceny and trespassing, were served.

Vandalism -- 245 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 9 between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A citizen reported that unknown people vandalized five buses that were parked in the parking lot of the old Marco Polo Restaurant. Open Door -- 900 Block Glyndon Street, SE Sept. 9, 12:08 p.m. Officers responding to a residential alarm found an unsecured door. The officers searched the residence and found nothing that appeared to be disturbed.

Destruction of Property -- 215 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 10, 8 a.m. An unknown person broke a window at the main entrance of the vacant building.

Police Service -- 800 Block Ninovan Road, SE Sept. 10, 4 p.m. A resident was seeking advice in dealing with family members regarding legal matters of their estate.

Alarm -- Westwood Country Club 800 Maple Avenue, East Sept. 10, 8:48 p.m. Officers responded to the report of an alarm at the Westwood Country Club. Officers found an open door and searched the club. Nothing appeared to have been disturbed. An employee responded to secure the door.

Domestic Dispute 18-007444 Cedar Lane, SE Sept. 10 between 9 p.m. and 10:06 p.m. Officers responded to the report of an argument between a woman and her boyfriend. The boyfriend agreed to leave the home for the night.

Police Service -- Glyndon Street, SE Sept. 11, 8 a.m. A resident reported concerns regarding issues with her ex-husband.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- Vienna Animal Hospital 531 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 10, 6 p.m. An employee was bitten on the hand by a cat during a medical procedure. The cat resides in Fairfax County. Fairfax County Animal Control will follow up on the quarantine.

Civil Dispute -- Locust Street, SE Sept. 12, 5:04 p.m. Officers responded to assist in a dispute over child custody. A resident advised her ex-husband was at the home to pick up their children for his visitation. However, the children refused to leave with him. Both parties reached an agreement for the night and agreed to speak to their attorneys to further work out the matter.

Police Service -- Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South Sept. 12, 7:15 p.m. A citizen turned in ammunition for destruction.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE Sept. 12, 8:10 p.m. An employee was bitten on the hand by a dog during a medical procedure. The dog resides in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County Animal Control will follow up with the quarantine.

Civil Matter -- 300 Block Orchard Street, NW Sept. 12, 10 p.m. A resident reported that a family member locked him out of a portion of the house and he wanted police assistance in gaining entry through the door. The resident was advised that this was a civil situation that would have to be worked out with the other family members.

Burglary -- 500 Block Stephen Circle, SW Sept. 13 between 10:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown person entered his home and stole a television.

Assist EMS -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW Sept. 13, 10:36 a.m. An officer responded with rescue personnel for a juvenile student who had accidentally taken too much of her prescription medication. The juvenile was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Welfare Check -- Church Street, NW Sept. 13, 6:53 p.m. A citizen expressed concern for a friend and requested officers check on her welfare. Officers found the woman was intoxicated and she made some concerning statements to them. A family member responded to assist the woman, and the woman agreed to speak with mental health personnel.

Service of Protective Order -- 100 Block Fardale Street, SE Sept. 13, 7:19 p.m. At the request of Giles County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department officers served a protective order on a man who is currently residing in Vienna.

CRASHES

100 Block Maple Avenue, West -- Sept. 6, 6:18 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the left lane. Vehicle-1 was exiting the parking lot of 155 Maple Avenue, West. Driver-1 did not see Vehicle-2 and collided with the right side. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Yield Right of Way.

Church Street and Beulah Road, NE -- Sept. 7, 7:38 a.m. Vehicle-2 was westbound on Church Street, proceeding through the intersection of Beulah Road. Vehicle-1 was eastbound on Church Street, turning left to go northbound on Beulah Road. As Driver-1 made the turn, he struck Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

400 Block Pine Street, SE -- Sept. 7, 4:29 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle. The other driver left the scene without providing their information.

Church Street near Mill Street, NE -- Sept. 8, 12:46 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked on Church Street when it was struck by an unknown vehicle. The other driver left the scene without providing their information.

Maple Avenue and Berry Street, SE -- Sept.12, 8:21 a.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling east on Maple Avenue in the center turn lane to turn left into 412 Maple Avenue, East. Vehicle-1 was on Berry Street attempting to turn left onto Maple Avenue. As Driver-1 entered the roadway, he struck Vehicle-2.
