Public Input Wanted on Proposed Transportation Upgrades to Fletcher’s Cove

The National Park Service wants to learn what people think about proposed transportation upgrades to Fletcher’s Cove, also known as the Fletcher’s Boathouse area, in Washington, D.C., just off Canal Road. The NPS welcomes your feedback and suggestions about our proposal to construct a new entrance and upgrade park roads and parking lots. These improvements will provide a more direct and safe transportation connection between Fletcher’s Cove and Canal Road, the C&O Canal towpath, and the Capital Crescent Trail.

The proposed project area is located on federal land between Canal Road and the Potomac River in the Palisades neighborhood. This area is administered by the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park. The C&O Canal National Historical Park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites.

There are two ways to comment during the 30-day public review period from April 15, 2019 to May 15, 2019:

Online through the Park Planning, Environment & Public Comments (PEPC) website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/fletchers

By Mail for letters postmarked by May 15, 2019: Superintendent, Attn: Fletcher’s Cove Transportation Upgrades EA, Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, 1850 Dual Highway, Suite 100, Hagerstown, MD 21740

Public participation is vital. The 30-day public comment period is the first step in the Environmental Assessment and Section 106 processes the NPS is conducting in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
