Vienna Police Highlights: Sept. 20 – 26, 2019.

INCIDENTS

Civil Dispute -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE Between Aug. 1 at 12 p.m. and Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. A resident reported an on-going civil dispute she is having with her neighbor.

Stalking -- 100 Block East Street, NE Between Aug. 20 at 12 p.m. and Sept. 24 at 7:27 p.m. A resident hired a man she had recently met to do some work around her house. The two had an argument regarding payment, and the man left the house in a disorderly manner. Over the past several weeks, the man has continued to harass the resident through text messages and other means of intimidation.

Animal Case -- The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE Sept. 19 12:00 p.m. A resident brought a cat from Amissville, Virginia to The Hope Center for treatment. An employee was exposed to the cat during surgery. ACO Barker transported a cat to the Fairfax County Health Department for rabies testing. The rabies tests later returned as negative for rabies.

Petit Larceny -- 600 Block Park Street, SE Between Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. and Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. A resident reported that his bicycle was stolen from his front porch.

Animal Case -- 100 Block Patrick Street, SE Sept. 20, 11:15 a.m. A resident reported that he was walking in the neighborhood when a dog began chasing him. ACO Barker spoke to the owners to make sure they secure their dog.

Bad Check -- 600 Block Sideling Court, NE Between Sept. 20 at 12 p.m. and 9:24 at 1:49 p.m. A resident posted an ad on Craigslist for a motorcycle that he was selling. A woman replied to the add by email stating she wished to purchase the motorcycle. The woman mailed a check to the resident. The resident was advised by the bank that the check was fraudulent.

Suspicious Person -- 100 Block Tapawingo Road, SE Sept. 20, 12:45 p.m. A resident received an alert on her security camera. The camera showed a man enter her yard, walk toward her front porch and mailbox, then suddenly leave the area.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- 400 Block Courthouse Road, SW Sept. 20, 8:35 p.m. MPO Shaw observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected an odor of marijuana. The driver was found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana. MPO Shaw issued a summons to the 27-year-old man from Fenwick Road in Falls Church, charging Possession of Marijuana. The man was released on his signature.

Found Property -- Church Street and Mill Street, NE Sept. 20, 9:24 p.m. A resident found a credit card in the area.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated -- 537 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 21, 2:34 a.m. PFC Williams observed a vehicle back into an unoccupied parked vehicle in the 7-11 parking lot. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected an odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment. PFC Williams arrested the 29-year-old man from Limb Tree Lane in Vienna. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Fraud -- 300 Block Lawyers Road, NW Sept. 22 between 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. A resident reported that she received a phone call advising that her iCloud account had possibly been compromised. During the phone call, she was transferred to a technician who informed the resident that she would need to make a payment in gift cards to safeguard her computer and banking information. The man also attempted to obtain her banking account numbers. The resident provided them with the gift cards but did not release any personal banking information.

Petit Larceny -- Exxon 395 Maple Avenue, East Sept. 22, 6:25 p.m. A resident parked his bicycle outside of the Exxon while he ran in to make a purchase. When he returned, he found his bicycle had been taken.

Juvenile Case -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW Sept. 23, 12:38 p.m. School administration reported that a 17-year-old student came to school under the influence of marijuana. The student became involved in a verbal dispute with another student, and the administration believed the dispute might escalate to a physical altercation. When officers arrived at the school, the students were separated, and the 17-year-old had calmed down and was with the school security officer. The administration advised they would handle the incident and no further police assistance was needed.

Suspicious Event -- Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE Sept. 23, 1:13 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a suspicious package that employees at the credit union received in the mail. The package was placed in a safe area, and the Fairfax County Police Bomb Squad responded to examine the package. The Bomb Squad determined the package was not a threat and only contained bank statements that a resident was returning to the credit union.

Arrest – Domestic Assault -- Patrick Street, SE Sept. 23, 3:21 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a domestic assault in progress. A 17-year-old juvenile returned home upset after an incident at school earlier in the day. The juvenile pushed his mother and began yelling and throwing things. The juvenile continued to act out when the officers arrived. PFC Post arrested the juvenile and transported him to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center where a petition was issued charging Domestic Assault.

Grand Larceny -- 200 Block Locust Street, SE Between Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. An unknown person forced entry into two of the residents’ property lockers in the basement of the condominiums. Tools were taken from one of the lockers.

Petit Larceny -- 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East Sept. 23, 8:30 p.m. An employee reported that a teenage male came into the store, made a purchase, then went to the rear of the store, and placed an unknown amount of alcohol into his backpack. As the employee confronted the teen, he ran out the front door, causing damage to the door, and fled the area.

Petit Larceny -- Shell Gas Station 252 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 24, 12:20 p.m. An employee reported that a man entered the store, removed two bottles of tea, and left the store without paying for the items.

Suspicious Person -- MacArthur Avenue and John Marshall Drive, NE Sept. 25, 6:40 a.m. A resident advised that he watched as his juvenile son walked to the bus stop. The resident observed a woman in a vehicle approach his son and ask him if he needed a ride. The juvenile declined the ride, and the woman drove off, stopping her vehicle near the intersection of MacArthur and McKinley. The resident immediately called his son to question the interaction. The resident then searched the area but was unable to locate the woman or her vehicle.

Narcotics Violation -- 400 Block Maple Avenue, East Sept. 25, 10:41 p.m. An officer observed a vehicle with defective equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected an odor of marijuana. An immeasurable amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Arrest – Drunk In Public -- Vienna Drug Center 150 Maple Avenue, West Officers observed a woman in the parking lot who showed signs of impairment. Upon their interaction with the woman, the officers determined she was impaired and placed her under arrest. Ofc. Wallace transported the 55-year-old woman from Manvell Road, SE, Vienna to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Drunk In Public.

Arrest – Assault -- 400 Block Kingsley Road, SW Sept. 26, 9:54 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a man who had assaulted a woman. The woman advised that she and the man had just returned to the residence when they began arguing. During the argument, the woman felt threatened and attempted to call the police. The man took her phone and threw it to the ground. The man then began assaulting the woman, causing visible injury. Rescue personnel responded and treated the woman. During the investigation, the man became loud and aggressive with officers and was placed under arrest. Once in the cruiser, the man continued to act aggressively. The man began complaining of chest pain, and rescue personnel were summoned to evaluate him. Rescue personnel transported him to an area hospital where he was medically cleared. Ofc. Murray then transported the 60-year-old man from Kingsley Road, SW to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The man was charged with felony Strangulation, and misdemeanor charges of Assault, Preventing a 911 Call, Obstruction of Justice and Drunk In Public. The man was held without bond.
