I have always known our dog, Ted E. Bear (or Teddy Bear). He is a white rambunctious Pomeranian fluffball. Sometimes my father tells my brother and I that he is our older brother. I guess, because when we were toddlers we three always played together. Teddy is twelve years old, about two years older than I am. I am ten years old. I have always loved animals. About two years ago, I wanted a cat to add to our family and to add more excitement. So, this story is about our cat, Whiskers. Whiskers, is almost 5 years old. His birthday is March 15.

Two years ago in 2018, my brother and I were looking at the cats and kittens in the Cat Rescue area of PetSmart. We left the area, but in walking by again one of the older cats bumped his head against the glass, as if to get our attention. However, we were interested in the two orange kittens.

The next day we brought our dog, Teddy. The two orange kittens were gone; adopted by the next day. A young cat hissed at him from behind the glass. But the older cat, who had banged his head on the glass the day before was relatively calm near Teddy and purred. That day we brought him home and named our rescued cat, Whiskers.

We think Whiskers may have had a bad experience or was mistreated, because he was very skittish around us and any noises for months. He and Teddy would near each other but kept their distance. In a few months of my petting and talking to him he became comfortable with me.

After a week’s vacation where Teddy stayed at my grandma’s and Whiskers at home, Whiskers was very happy to see Teddy again! In the two years since he likes to be around everyone in the family and both he and Teddy eat and nap during the day right next to each other.

He loves to go inside his cardboard log cabin that he got for Christmas. Inside he has a cardboard floor that he sometimes likes to scratch. He likes chin scratches, loves to purr and when you give him head to tail pets he kneads the ground beneath him to show his pleasure. That is my story about my cat, Whiskers.
