Vienna Police Highlights April 2 – April 9, 2021

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from April 2 – April 9, 2021.

INCIDENTS

Fraud -- 700 Block Cottage Street, SW Between Dec. 28, 2020 at 12 p.m. and April 1, 2021 at 12 p.m. A resident reported that his ex-wife used his personal information to open a utility account in his name. The resident was not residing in the town when the fraud occurred. He was advised to report the incident to the proper police jurisdiction in Texas.

Burglary -- 200 Block Park Street, SE

Between March 15 at 11 p.m. and March 16 at 2 a.m.

An officer located the owner of the property that was recovered in a previous case. The owner returned home from being out of town to find that someone forced entry into his residence. This case is being investigated.

Vandalism -- 300 Block Park Street, NE

Between March 28 at 12 p.m. and March 30 at 12 p.m.

A resident reported that someone vandalized his vehicle. This is being investigated.

Lost Property -- 100 Block Church Street, NE

March 28, 12 p.m.

A citizen reported that he lost his wallet in the area of the Freeman House Store.

Stolen Vehicle -- 100 Block Elm Street, SW

Between March 30 at 12 p.m. and April 5 at 9 p.m.

A resident reported that her vehicle was taken while she was out of town.

Animal Case -- 1000 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW

March 31, 10:53 a.m.

ACO Barker received a couple of complaints regarding a resident running with her dogs without having them on a leash. The dogs’ owner was advised of the Town ordinance and that they may be issued a summons for the violation if they do not comply.

Narcotics Violation -- 400 Block Echols Street, SE

April 1, 8:29 p.m.

An officer observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected an odor of marijuana. The driver had a small amount of marijuana in her possession that was taken for destruction.

Suspicious Event -- 1000 Block Westbriar Drive, NE

April 2, 9:14 a.m.

A resident reported that he observed a man riding a bike carrying multiple Amazon packages. The resident followed the man into Fairfax County in the area of Old Courthouse Road. He advised the man discarded the packages, but was not sure where. Fairfax County Police were also notified.

Welfare Check -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE

April 2, 11:43 a.m.

Officers checked on the welfare of a resident who sent a concerning message to her family. The resident was located with her occupational therapist. She advised that she is recovering from some medical issues, and did not need any assistance.

Animal Case -- 1200 Block Drake Street, SW

April 2, 1:10 p.m.

An officer responded to a report of an injured raccoon. The officer found the animal was in grave condition and euthanized the raccoon.

Police Service -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE

April 2, 5:52 p.m.

A resident reported that his neighbor is piling up bags of trash, containing human waste, in the apartment hallway. The resident was advised to contact the condo association regarding the violation of their bylaws and his attorney about the living conditions. The officer notified Mobil Crisis of the incident and requested they follow up with the neighbor to check on her well-being.

Suspicious Event -- Wawa

465 Maple Avenue, West

April 4, 10:32 p.m.

An officer responded to a dispute between customers and an employee.

Natural -- 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW

April 5, 6:05 a.m.

Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with a resident who suffered from medical issues and was found deceased in her bedroom.

Emotionally Disturbed Person -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE

April 5, 5:30 p.m.

Officers responded to the report of an emotionally disturbed resident who left several bags of human waste at her neighbor’s door. The resident was also observed throwing household objects off her balcony. The Fairfax County Hazardous Material’s Unit responded to check for possible hazardous material in the discarded bags and did not detect any flammable or explosive material in the debris. An Emergency Custody Order was issued for the resident. However, she refused to open her door for officers to serve the order.

Assist EMS -- 100 Patrick Street, SE

April 5, 7:23 p.m.

Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with a man who was highly intoxicated in his apartment. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Arrest – Domestic Assault -- Wilmar Place, NW

April 6, 2:44 a.m.

Officers responded to the report of a domestic assault between husband and wife. An argument between the two parties escalated, becoming physical. Rescue personnel responded and transported the woman to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. MPO Borja arrested the husband, a 55-year-old man from Wilmar Drive, NW in Vienna. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Domestic Assault and an Emergency Protective Order was issued.

Arrest - Emotionally Disturbed Person -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE

April 6, 11:40 a.m.

Mental Health personnel requested officers attempt to locate a resident and serve an Emergency Custody Order. Officers located the resident at the Chipotle Restaurant, 213 Maple Avenue, East. PFC Herrera arrested the 69-year-old woman from Park Terrace Court, SE, Vienna. She was transported to a mental health facility where their staff took custody of her and held her for evaluation and treatment. Sgt. Kiley also served a warrant on her charging Illegal Dumping from another incident. (Reference March 19, 2021 Highlights Incident #21-001416).

Police Service -- Navy Federal Credit Union, 820 Follin Lane, SE

April 6, 6:30 p.m.

A security guard found suspected narcotics and turned them in for destruction.

Assault 21--- Vienna Dog Park, 700 Courthouse Road, SW

April 7, 5:41 p.m.

A woman’s dog began attacking another dog at the dog park. The owner of the second dog pulled the attacking dog off of his and kicked it. The incident then escalated with the two parties physically assaulting the other. Both parties were advised of the warrant process should they wish to pursue assault charges against each other.

Assist EMS -- Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE

April 7, 8:27 p.m.

A resident requested rescue personnel respond to transport him to detox.

Vehicle Tampering -- 200 Block Locust Street, SW

Between April 7 at 9 p.m. and April 8 at 9 a.m.

A resident reported that someone rummaged through his unlocked vehicle and stole a toolbox.

Suspicious Event -- 1200 Block Cottage Street, SW

April 7, 9:58 p.m.

A resident reported that a man and woman were in the backyard of a vacant home who appeared to be arguing and breaking things. When officers arrived, they observed a man inside the home who came out to speak to them. The man reported that their landlord had cut off the water and gas and boarded up the home so that he and his wife could not get in. He advised that he broke the rear sliding glass door so he could get his possessions. The landlord was notified and she advised the couple moved out in March and were not permitted to be at the property. Officers also found drug paraphernalia in the house. The man was placed under arrest and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The magistrate denied issuing a warrant charging burglary for the man because the tenants had not been served with an official eviction notice through the Sheriff’s Department to vacate the house.

Arrest – Warrant Service -- 2200 Block Cedar Lane, SE

April 8, 11:04 a.m.

Fairfax County Police requested assistance in serving warrants on a man. MPO Tremont arrested the 53-year-old man from Cedar Lane, SE, Vienna at the rear of the Cedar Lane Shopping Center. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the two warrants charging Sexual Assault on a Minor were served on him.

Animal Case -- 400 Block Blair Road, NW

April 8, 11:44 a.m.

ACO Barker responded to the report of a sick raccoon. He found the animal in grave condition and euthanized the raccoon.

CRASHES

100 Block Maple Avenue, East -- April 1, 2:05 p.m.

Two vehicles were traveling westbound in the same lane of traffic on Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 ran into the rear of Vehicle-2

400 Block Maple Avenue, East -- April 2, 3:15 p.m.

Vehicle-1 was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, attempting to turn left into a parking lot at 418 Maple Avenue, East. Two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple. The vehicle in the left lane stopped to allow Vehicle-1 to pass through. Vehicle-2 was traveling in the right lane and was struck by Vehicle-1. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Church Street and Glyndon Street, NE -- April 3, 2:58 p.m.

Vehicle-1 was stopped on northbound Glyndon Street at the intersection of Church Street. Vehicle-2 was already in the intersection, traveling eastbound on Church Street when Vehicle-1 struck Vehicle-2. Vehicle-1 pushed Vehicle-2 into Vehicle-3, which was traveling westbound on Church Street. Vehicle-1 then ran off the road, striking two signs and a tree. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

100 Block Maple Avenue, East -- April 5, 9:21 p.m.

Vehicle-1 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, turning left into a parking lot at 133 Maple Avenue, East. Vehicle-2 was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 struck Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Beulah Road and Sherwood Drive, NE -- April 6, 9:46 p.m.

Vehicle-2 was traveling northbound on Beulah Road, stopped at the intersection of Sherwood Drive due to wildlife crossing the road. Vehicle-1 ran into the rear of Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
