On the morning of Sunday, Oct. 2, Fairfax County Police were called around 7 a.m. to the 5800 block of St Gregorys Lane in Mount Vernon for a report of gunshots, police said. Detectives obtained warrants for Trott-McLean for second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

On Wednesday night, Nov. 30, officers located an unoccupied vehicle they believed Trott-McLean was using in the 8600 block of Forest Place in Mount Vernon. Detectives from the Fugitive Track and Apprehension Unit responded to conduct a surveillance operation on the vehicle.

Shortly after noon on Thursday, Trott-McLean was seen returning to the vehicle under surveillance in another vehicle. Detectives approached, and he attempted to flee in the vehicle that he arrived in. Detectives prevented his escape by making contact with his vehicle and rendering it inoperable. Trott-McLean was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated. He was then taken to the Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
