Death Investigation in Mount Vernon

Detectives from FCPD Major Crimes Bureau are conducting a death investigation of 51-year-old Todd Matthew Gleason.

On June 17, Gleason was arrested for an outstanding warrant for petit larceny and failure to appear on a felony offense by Mount Vernon District patrol officers, according to police. There was no force used during Gleason’s arrest. Following his arrest, Gleason requested to be taken to the hospital for a preexisting injury. Officers facilitated his request, and he was medically cleared by hospital staff the same day. Gleason was then taken to the Adult Detention Center (ADC) where he remained held.

On the morning of July 3, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office deputies requested an ambulance to transport Gleason from the ADC to the hospital after he complained of pain to his stomach and leg. At 9:22 pm on July 3, a magistrate released Gleason from custody on his recognizance. Gleason remained in hospital care and died during the morning of July 4. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
