Officer Joseph Fernandez was recently honored as the Sully District Police Station’s Officer of the Quarter for January, February and March. He was feted at the April 10 meeting of the station’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
Fernandez has been with the Fairfax County Police Department for just over two and a half years and, at the time of the ceremony, was assigned to Sully’s Midnights A patrol squad. Capt. Ryan Low, the station’s assistant commander, wrote the letter nominating him for the honor.
“Officer Fernandez has consistently demonstrated a dedication to the arrest of impaired drivers,” wrote Low. “Since starting with the Department, he has maintained a strong desire to remove intoxicated drivers from the roadways and protect the community.”
Low noted that, during every shift, Fernandez proactively sought out drunk drivers. In addition, he routinely volunteered to participate in DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the county.
“Fernandez was Sully’s representative for last summer’s crime initiative targeting impaired drivers,” wrote Low. “His dedication to arresting impaired drivers continued into 2024. He currently leads all FCPD officers for the number of DWI arrests.”
In fact, he’s done so well in this field that Fernandez was selected to become a full-time member of the Department’s DWI Enforcement Squad.
“Although he will be leaving the Sully District Station, we are confident he will continue his success with combating impaired driving throughout the county,” wrote Low. “Due to his hard work, reliability and dedication to protecting the community members of Fairfax County, we are honored to select Officer Fernandez as Sully’s CAC Officer of the Quarter.”
