Deputy Specialist James D. Spurlock Jr., center, has received the Virginia Veterans of Foreign Wars Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. Spurlock, a Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputy for two years, has served in patrol and currently is a member of the agency’s Crime Prevention Unit. He was nominated by VFW Loudoun County Post 9478 in Sterling for his outstanding commitment to the community. The award makes Spurlock Virginia’s candidate for the national J. Edgar Hoover Gold Medal. The national award was established in 1966 to honor officers for their commitment to their community in addition to law enforcement.
