Candidate's Blueprint

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

We have been receiving political mail for as long as we have been voting. We have never received anything quite like the cardboard tube that came from candidate for state delegate, Greg Werkheiser. Inside was Werkheiser's poster-sized "Blueprint for Progress," his agenda for addressing our community's most pressing problems, including traffic, property taxes and gangs. We were impressed for two reasons.

First, candidates for public office never trust us voters enough to give us any details. Even in Fairfax County, where voters are among the best educated in the nation, most political mail speaks to us like second-graders. In Mr. Werkheiser, we finally seem to have someone who respects the intelligence of his constituents.

While we did not agree with 100 percent of Werkheiser's Blueprint, we found most of his ideas compelling. We called the Werkheiser campaign to find out what this mailing cost and was pleased to learn that in sending out this one comprehensive mailing they were able to eliminate five other mailings and save lots of money. Creative thinking, real ideas and the courage to trust the public; we have decided who we want representing us in Richmond.

Mr. & Mrs. Richard Tiner
