DWI Arrest in Merrifield
Vienna resident Marlon Humberto Miranda Rivera, 25, of the 8100 block of Harte Place, was arrested on April 1 at 11:50 p.m. for driving while intoxicated. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Merrifield, near the intersection of Lee Highway and Shreve Road, but the driver accelerated and fled. He struck several street signs, a car traveling on Lee Highway, a car parked at the intersection of Lee Highway and Mary Street and stopped after striking the building in the 7700 block of Lee Highway. The damage to the business is estimated at over $50,000.
Miranda received minor injuries, and his passenger, a 21-year-old man, was not injured. Miranda was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where warrants were served on him for felony hit and run, felony speed to elude, second driving while intoxicated within 10 years and driving on a suspended operator’s license.
Dunn Loring Park Approved
The Fairfax County Planning Commission approved the construction of the South Railroad Street Park in Dunn Loring. The two-acre park will be built along South Railroad street near Gallows Road. About 1.3 acres of the site will be set aside as a tree preservation area. On the remainder of the park there will be a small playground, picnic tables a multi-purpose court and an open play area.
“Our community needs a park. We need this park,” said Laura Lane, a nearby resident.
At least part of the construction costs will be paid for by area residents. Lane said she has been actively raising money for the park’s construction, including $11,500 during a 1.5-hour event at her home one weekend.
