<sh>Academy Students Examine Health Issues

<bt>Twenty juniors and seniors from Fairfax County participated in the Northern Virginia Summer Academy, July 8-26. Through field trips, DNA experiments, debates, and seminars, they explored the relationships between biomedical technology, health care, genetics, and public policy. The students also had the opportunity to observe heart surgery at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and tour research facilities at the National Institutes of Health, The Institute for Genomic Research, a biomedical engineering lab at George Washington University, and the Naval Research Lab. While in Washington, D.C., the students met Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th), lobbyists, journalists, health care advocates, and the chief of science research at the Library of Congress.

<sh>Thompson, Wenrich Wed in Double-ring Ceremony

<bt>>Sara Patton Thompson, daughter of Sandra L. Thompson of Sterling and Dale E. Thompson of Alta Loma, Ca., was married to Jason William Wenrich, son of Mary Ruth and William Noll Wenrich of Herndon on Saturday, June 1 at Elkridge Furnace Inn, Elkridge, Md.

The Rev. Lisa Bandel-Sparks, Bethany United Methodist Church, performed the double-ring ceremony. Amanda Thompson of Sterling, sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Meredith Banks of Midlothian and Anne and Julianne Lussier of Herndon, the junior bridesmaid was Catelyn Detore and the flower girl was Courtney Detore, both of Clifton. William Wenrich, father of the groom, was the best man. The groomsmen were Jason Reyes of Herndon, David Resetar of New London, Conn. and John Hallett of Richmond. The groomsmen attendant was Jacyn Thompson of Fairfax, twin brother of the bride.

The bride and groom are 1995 graduates of Herndon High School and 1999 graduates of Mary Washington College. She is employed with Splash Aquatics in Sterling. He is pursuing a Masters of Science degree in Economics while employed as an economist with the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. The couple took a honeymoon trip to Ireland and now resides in Leesburg.
