Marine Corps Pvt. Michael S. Cavender recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Cavender is a 2002 graduate of Woodson High School.
Army 2nd Lt. Todd R. Hertling has graduated the armor officer basic course at Fort Knox, Ky. Hertling is the son of Mark P. and Susan D. Hertling of Red Patch Lane in Fairfax. The lieutenant is a 1998 graduate of West Springfield High School and a 2002 graduate of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Eric M. Lockard has received a three-year Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) scholarship to attend Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. He is the son of Dennis K. Lockard of Whisper Willow Drive in Fairfax. The cadet is a 2001 graduate of Fairfax High School. Lockard is pursuing a degree in biology.
