Police department is investigating a destruction of property that occurred in the 9300 block of Jackson Street in the Burke area about 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2. A man saw that his house and two cars had been egged along with a defamatory remark targeting African-Americans. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 703-691-2131.

Charged with Embezzling

The Fairfax County Police department arrested Gale Jeffrey, 46, of 3539 Eskew Court, in the Woodbridge area charging her with embezzlement. Between 1999 and 2002, Jeffrey was employed as an educational assistant in Rolling Valley Elementary school, located at 6703 Barnack Drive in the Springfield area and Gunston Elementary School, located at 10100 Gunston Road in the Lorton area. During the routine audit that was conducted by the school's administration it was discovered that Jeffrey, who had access to various bank accounts used by the schools, drew checks from these accounts and made funds payable to her personal account. following a police investigation Jeffrey was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center where she was held on a $5,500 bond.

Robbed at Home

Fairfax County Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred in the 6500 block of Summerton Way in the Springfield area about 11:35 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1. An 81-year-old man was at home when he heard the doorbell ring. When he answered the door, three men forced their way into the residence. One man brandished a handgun and ordered the victim and his 76-year-old wife upstairs. The suspects ransacked the house and took an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry before they fled in an unknown direction. The victims summoned police after hearing the suspects leave. No one required medical treatment. The suspects were each described as Asian, in their 20's, five feet nine inches tall and weighing 160 pounds.

Franconia House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire in the Franconia area of the county at approximately 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3. The single-family home is located at 5211 Ninian Ave. First arriving units reported heavy fire coming from the front of the house. The blaze was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. One pet cat suffered minor injuries and was taken to the clinic. There were no other injuries reported. Two adults have been displaced. Damage is estimated at $50,000 and a malfunctioning furnace caused the fire.

Burke Teacher Honored

David Evelyn, a long-time Lake Braddock Secondary School art teacher and former chair of the school's art department, has been selected by the National Art Education Association to receive the Southeastern Secondary Art Educator of the Year award. It will be presented at the NAEA convention in March.
