Schedule For Neighborhood Day

Arlington will celebrate its Sixth Annual Neighborhood Day, Saturday, May 11, with a host of neighborhood events and a countywide parade, all designed to demonstrate Arlingtonians' community pride.

Building on past years' successes, the day will once again feature a wide variety of activities held throughout the community, including family festivals, neighborhood block parties, open houses and community service projects. The schedule of events is as follows:

<b>* Fifth Annual Neighborhood Day Parade,</b> beginning at 2 p.m., Wilson Boulevard from Clarendon Metro station to North Wayne Street in Courthouse area, featuring marching groups, the Fort Myer Fife and Drum Corps, Wakefield High School Band, antique cars, floats and more.

<b>* Advent Lutheran Church Coffee and Open House,</b> 8-11 a.m., 2222 S. Arlington Ridge Road.

<b>* The Animal Welfare League of Arlington Walk for Animals,</b> 8:30 a.m., Bluemont Park, 601 N. Manchester St., registration starting at 8:30 a.m. This annual event will feature a three-mile walk, a one-mile stroll and more.

<b>* Arlington/East Falls Church Civic Association Neighborhood Service Day,</b> 9 a.m.-noon,

<b>* East Falls Church Park,</b> 1701 N. Van Buren St., featuring tree planting.

<b>* The Friends of Clarendon House Car Wash,</b> 9 a.m.-1 p.m. , 3141 N. 10th St.

<b>* Uncommon Market Open House,</b> 9 a.m.-9 p.m., 1041 S. Edgewood St.

<b>* Washington & Old Dominion Trail Ribbon Cutting and Tree Planting,</b> 9:30 a.m., Bluemont Park, 601 N. Manchester St., a celebration of trails, neighbors and cooperation. The tree will serve as a tribute to those affected by the tragedies of Sept. 11.

<b>* Community United Methodist Church Bazaar and Rummage Sale,</b> 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 1701 N. Bryan St.

<b>* Clarendon United Methodist Church, Spring Mission Bazaar,</b> 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 606 N. Irving St.

<b>* Highland Park-Overlee Knolls Family Fair,</b> 10 a.m.-noon, North McKinley Road in Westover, featuring fire trucks, a bike rodeo, face painting, library activities, prizes and tree giveaway.

<b>* Tuckahoe Elementary School Family Fitness Day,</b> 10 a.m.-noon, Tuckahoe Elementary School Field, 6550 N. 26th St., offering lots of family fun and fitness activities.

<b>* Summer Teen Expo,</b> 11 a.m.,-1 p.m., Washington & Lee High School, 1300 N. Quincy St., bringing together local businesses, nonprofits and teens searching for summer jobs. A representative from the county's Volunteer Office will also be present.

<b>* Bluemont Civic Association Neighborhood Day Celebration in Bluemont Park,</b> 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 601 N. Manchester St., featuring a hotdog barbecue, face painting and helping experts check the health of Four Mile Stream.

<b>* Buckingham Neighbors Picnic and Tree Planting,</b> 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Lubber Run Center, 300 N. Park Drive.

<b>* Central Library Public Art Installation Reception,</b> noon, 1015 N. Quincy St., featuring music by the Pan Masters Steel Drum Orchestra, light refreshments, giveaways for children.

<b>* Arlington Community Hero Awards Presentation,</b> noon, Ballston Common Mall, honoring groups and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Arlington community.

<b>* Multicultural Festival,</b> 3 p.m., Courthouse Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., featuring entertainment and exhibits representing the many different cultures that make up Arlington.

<b>* The Randolph and Quebec Streets Block Party,</b> 4:30 p.m., in the neighborhood bordered by North Randolph and North Quebec streets.

<b>* Fort Myer Military Community Twilight Tattoo Ceremony,</b> 6:30 p.m., Fort Myer at the Summerall Parade Field, honoring the heroes of Sept. 11 with special performances by the 3rd Infantry (the Old Guard) and the U.S. Army Band.

<b>* Arlington Historical Society Banquet,</b> 6:30 p.m., Holiday Inn Ballston, 4610 N. Fairfax Drive.

<b>* Jaycees Young Professionals Networking Social,</b> 7 p.m., Champps, Pentagon Row, 1201 S. Joyce St.
