Wootton Puts on Grease

Can true love win out when a ‘greaser’ and a ‘good girl’ share a summer romance?

“Grease” has entertained teenagers for decades as the boy-meets-girl story of Danny and Sandy. The two lovers from opposite walks of life decide to change their reputations and appearances to make the other happy.

Wootton Center for the Arts will perform “Grease” for its fall production, under the direction of Stan Brodsky. The play is known for its theme of growing up, exciting dance numbers and a soundtrack including such classics as “Summer Lovin’,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “You’re the One That I Want.”

Wootton’s production features Jason Schlafstein as Danny and Amy Renner as Sandy. Sarah Shmitz, Amy Lieberman, Katherine Compton and Cara Pellegrino play Sandy’s friends, the Pink Ladies. Danny’s friends, the Burger Palace boys, are played by Zia Hassan, Jason Beekman, Jeff Corwin and Andrew Stiles.

“Grease” runs from Thursday, Nov. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 17 at Wootton High School, 2100 Wootton Parkway, Rockville. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-16, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Reserved seats are $8, general admission $5. For tickets and information, call 301-279-8581.
