Pedals for Progress. Donate a good used bike as part of the Fairfax County Recycling Office's "Trash to Treasure" recycling event. Repairable bicycles may be dropped off, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Herndon High School, 700 Bennett St. Bikes are shipped to charities overseas, for repair and distribution to people in need of affordable transport to work and school. A tax deductible $10 donation per bike is suggested to defray a portion of shipping and handling. Other items collected as part of the larger event include cell phones, computers, and eyeglasses. Annual Holiday Parade. Reston Town Center, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme for this year’s parade is ‘Today’s Child, Tomorrow’s Future’ and will feature Santa, musical groups, dancers and antique care collectors.

Santa Photos. 1805 Library St., lobby in Reston Town Center, at 5 p.m. Photos with Santa will be taken after the Annual Holiday Parade and cost $10 per person.

Christmas Tree Lighting. Market Street and Fountain Square in Reston Town Center, at 6 p.m. Santa will arrive in a horse-drawn carriage to light up the Reston Town Center and holiday tree. Free songbooks will be provided for a sing along lead by the Reston Choral and McLean Brass following the tree lighting.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides. Begin in front of Talbot’s on Market Street in Reston Town Center, and continue from 6:30-9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Children under 5 ride free. All proceeds will benefit Lake Anne Nursery and Kindergarten.
