Alexandria's Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Scheduled

The Eighth Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer presented by ASCO/Ropes & Gray, Safeway and Western Union, will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 8:30 a.m., at Cameron Run Regional Park, 4001 Eisenhower Ave, in Alexandria.

To register, participants can visit www.alexcancerwalk.com or call 703-838-5030. Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for children and includes a commemorative t-shirt. Breast cancer survivors will receive a pink survivor shirt. Participants may also register the morning of the walk.

Proceeds support the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund, which provides free mammography screening for Alexandria women who are not adequately insured and could not otherwise obtain this necessary medical care.

All participants are asked to collect pledges for the fund. Persons and teams raising the most in pledges will be eligible for great prizes such as Potomac Riverboat and Dandy cruises, dinner or brunch at many local restaurants, weekend hotel packages, Maid Brigade cleaning services, and spa and fitness packages.

The Walk will be held rain or shine. The route can accommodate all walkers, children in strollers and individuals using wheelchairs.

Parking is available at Cameron Run Regional Park on a limited basis with handicap preference. Additional free parking is available at the AMC Hoffman Center Theaters. Free DASH shuttle service will operate between the AMC Hoffman Center and Cameron Run Regional Park.

The event is co-sponsored by the City of Alexandria's Office on Women and Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation. For more information, visit www.alexcancerwalk.com or call the Office on Women at 703-838-5030.
