Steven J. Schupak of Potomac has been named vice president of Content Enterprises at Maryland Public Television. In this role, he is responsible for television programming development, production and distribution strategy on national productions as well as regional productions such as “ArtWorks This Week,” “State Circle,” “Business Connection,” “Outdoors Maryland” and “Direct Connection.”

Schupak previously served as vice president of strategic marketing and business development for Henninger Media Services, Inc. in the Washington, DC area. Earlier he held management positions in production and program development at ABC Television Network in New York; e-on Corporation in Reston, Va., COMSAT Video Enterprises, part of Lockheed Martin in Bethesda, and the National Cable and Telecommunications Association in Washington, DC. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York University and his master’s degree in marketing from the University of Maryland, University College.

Kelu Chao, a 20-year resident of Potomac, has been selected as the first associate director for Language Programming at Voice of America in Washington, D.C. Chao will plan, direct, and coordinate Voice of America programming activities for radio, television, and the Internet. She will also serve as a senior advisor to the Voice of America director.

Prior to being selected for the position, Chao served as director of the East Asia and Pacific Division and most recently as acting program director. She has worked at Voice of America for 23 years.

Chao graduated from Ohio’s Kent State University in 1975, where she studied rhetoric and communication. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, European Broadcasting Union, North American Broadcast Association, Public Broadcasters International, and World Radio Network.

VOA, which first aired in 1942, is a multimedia broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government. It broadcasts over 1000 hours of news, informational, educational, and cultural programming every week to a worldwide audience of 94 million people.
