Good Samaritans Help in Arrest

<bt>Fairfax County Police credit the actions of two citizens, who they say helped in the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

According to police reports, two passers-by were walking in the Merrifield area early in the morning on Thursday, Oct. 2, when they heard a woman’s screams for help. The victim was a 26-year-old Los Angeles-area woman. She had been at a restaurant in the 7800 block of Lee Highway, where police say she met Seung Hwa Park. Engaged in conversation, the woman and Park left the restaurant at approximately 2 a.m. Once in the parking lot, police say Park grabbed the victim, forced her into nearby woods and sexually assaulted her.

The woman's screams drew the attention of the passers-by, who rushed to her aid. They struggled with Park until police arrived. McLean District officers arrested Park, who was taken to the hospital for injuries received during the struggle with the passers-by. He was later taken to the Adult Detention Center, where he is being held. Police have charged him with rape and abduction with the intent to defile.
