Soft suede, moleskin, leather and velour were just a few of the materials presented by Draper's & Damon's at Yacht Haven Garden Club's Fashion Show, Luncheon and Silent Auction.

Held last week at the Fort Belvoir Officer's Club, the show's theme was "Off to the Races."

In keeping with that theme, the centerpieces were made to look like small white wooden barns, complete with flowering mums and a numbered horse, all handcrafted by Ginger and Dusty Rhodes, with help from garden club members. One lucky guest from each table brought one of the centerpieces home with them.

THE FASHIONS were also announced in racing stages: "At the Starting Gate," "They're Off," "Coming 'Round the Turn," and "Racing with the Moon."

Members of the Yacht Haven Garden Club, Carla Amerau, Cynthia Brown, Linda Ely, Godi Habib, Angelita Kabler, Jacque Knight, Bonnie Lilley, Marvel Luykx, Babs McClendon, Chris Pryately, Ginger Rhodes and Ebba Jo Spettel, served as models. They were made even more beautiful with the help of Diane Varajas and Tafaha Sacies, who did the models' hair, and Barbara Hill, who did the make-up.

Members of several other local garden clubs came as guests. Serving as ushers were Don Cannavaro, Bill Higgins, Dusty Rhodes, Tracy Teeter and John Storm.

Before and after the fashion show, guests viewed the silent auction table, which featured more than 60 items in many different categories. Winners were announced at the end of the show, as were the winners of the raffle and the door prize. Lunch consisted of a garden salad and beef tenderloin tips with buttered noodles. A surprise dessert from Hollin Hall Pastry Shop completed the meal.
