'Runaways' Home in Vienna

Vienna's summer youth theater group tackles a musical about the lives of runaways on the streets.

This summer, the Vienna Youth Players presents "Runaways," a musical about the runaway experience and life on the streets. Written by Elizabeth Swados and directed by Babs Dyer, the musical portrays the stories based on actual runaways in New York City and incorporates a variety of styles, from reggae to hip hop to salsa.

Performances are on Aug. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 15 at 2 p.m., at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. Tickets are $8, $7 for students and seniors. Donations will be accepted for the Alternative House, a Vienna shelter for teen-agers, after each performance. The musical is not recommended for small children.
