”Jingle Bells” and “Jungle Drums” were just two of the tunes performed by Mount Vernon High School’s symphonic band this week. They also played “An Angelic Christmas” and “Dance of the Slippery Slide Trombones.” The symphonic band was followed by the percussion ensemble, which performed “Santa’s in the House.” The Wind Ensemble then took center stage, playing “C’est Noel,” “The First Noel,” “A Fireside Christmas,” and “Imani.” The combined bands closed out the evening with “Sleigh Ride.”
In keeping with the spirit, the band collected Toys for Tots and the band boosters sold poinsettias. Kristi Hellmuth, president of the band boosters, has two children who play instruments, and said, “This is what I love.”
