Falls Road Crash Zone

Temperatures hovering around the freezing mark created hazardous conditions on Potomac’s roadways as snow melts and re-freezes.

On Feb. 11, Montgomery County Police noted icy conditions on the accident reports for several accidents on Falls Road.

A personal injury collision involving two vehicles was reported at 6:43 a.m., said Police spokesperson Lucille Bauer near Falls Bridge Lane. Then, at 8:19 a.m., a property damage collision occurred in the same location when a single car hit a utility pole.

The pole came down, along with the attached wires, closing the road during the morning rush hour and for several hours after that. Police did not have information about when it was re-opened.

At 9:19, another property damage collision was reported on Falls Road, this one near the intersection with Oaklyn Drive. Then another personal injury collision was reported at 1:22 p.m. on Falls Road near Brickyard Road.

Police said it is unlikely that icy conditions were involved in the afternoon collision.

Drivers should exercise caution when temperatures are fluctuating near the freezing mark, police say, because patches of road which appear to be wet may actually be ice.
