Snow, freezing drizzle, freezing rain, sleet, hail and ice. This area saw a little of everything this week. The two-day scheduled leave for Fairfax County schools at the beginning of the week was extended as schools remained closed on Wednesday.
Roads that remained covered with snow from the first storm received a coating of ice and some more snow. This made for some very dicey conditions both Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Weather forecasts are calling for a slight warm-up by the end of the week, so conditions should improve.
Children took advantage of the school closings and took to the hills. While powdery at first, they soon turned very slick, icy — perfect for trying out that new sled, snowboard or toboggan.
