Several thousand people from countless cultures and ethnicities converged at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston on Sunday night to celebrate the nation's independence.
While the main event was the Fairfax County Park Authority's fireworks display, the afternoon at the park was filled with barbecues, volleyball, small fireworks, water guns and music.
The Lake Fairfax Park Independence Day celebration has become a tradition in Reston, offering residents throughout the region who want to see a large fireworks display an alternative to the crowds in Washington, D.C.
