South Lakes High School students Jeff Ward and Cassandra Bates have both earned four-year college music scholarships. Ward will attend Ithaca College in New York, majoring in bassoon performance and music education. He has been both a bassoonist in the high school wind ensemble and a cellist in the orchestra. Cassandra Bates will attend Howard University in the fall, studying Horn performance and music education. At South Lakes, Bates played French horn in the South Lakes High School wind ensemble and marching bands.

Caitlin Gailey Brownlee McClearyCale Lockwood, daughter of Karen and Charles Lockwood of Reston, graduated from Haverford College in Pa. Sunday, May 16. Lockwood received bachelor of arts degrees in political science and Spanish, with honors.

Jonita Bruzual, a senior at South Lakes High School in Reston, is a recipient of the Comcast Student Achievement Award, for showing the most academic improvement in the course of her high school career. The award includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Reston resident Elizabeth Stites, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stites, graduated from Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., on May 15. Stites, who received a bachelor of arts in psychology, was a 2001 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She also was inducted into the Scroll and Key scholastic honor society at Grove City College this spring.

Online and telephone registration is now open for the summer sessions at Northern Virginia Community College through the NovaConnect system. Classes begin June 28 for the second six-week session.
