The Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) announces the winners of the 2004 High School Arts Award, which recognizes four local graduating seniors for their hard work, enthusiasm and outstanding achievements in the fine arts. This yearÕs recipients from South Lakes High School are Chris Tate, who will attend Northern Virginia Community College and Aidan Rowley, who will attend Virginia Commonwealth University. The recipients from Herndon High School are Kathryne E. Wood, who will attend Salem College and Alex Huneke, who will attend Ringling School of Art and Design. The students each received a $500 award and a free membership to GRACE. All four students plan to continue their study of art as they enter college in the fall.

James Sherrill, son of Charles and Janice Sherrill of Oak Hill, was honored at William Jewell College's fourth annual David Nelson Duke Undergraduate Colloquium Day convocation. Sherrill, a junior, is a computer science and political science major. He gave a presentation entitled, "Discovering the Future of Automated Healthcare Applications." The colloquium is part of the school's effort to increase involvement of undergraduates in research.

The League of Reston Artists (LRA) announces the 2004 LRA Art Scholarship Award Winners from Herndon High School. Anne Marley, a graduating senior from Reston, was awarded a $250 scholarship to study photography at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. Alexander Huneke of Herndon was awarded a $250 scholarship to study fine art at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. In addition to receiving their scholarships, Marley and Huneke will be invited to exhibit their work at the upcoming League of Reston Artists 11th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition from June 7-July 6 at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery of the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne Plaza. The League of Reston Artists Annual Art Scholarship program is designed to acknowledge senior students from Herndon High School and South Lakes High School who plan on pursuing further studies in the arts.

Sarah Belen, daughter of Fred and Gail Belen of Oak Hill, has been accepted at Gannon University, Erie, Pa. and will attend in the Fall 2004 semester as a pre-med major. Belen will also play for the school's lacrosse team.

Herndon High School's class of 1999 will hold its five-year reunion Aug. 7, at Champps in Reston, from 7-10 p.m. The cost is $15 and includes an appetizer buffet and two drink tickets. The Virginia Tech Army ROTC held its commissioning ceremony for the class of 2004 June 21, at Donaldson Brown Auditorium.

Christopher Hull of Herndon, a graduate in geography from the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech, has been commissioned to Alaska.
