The Alexandria Business and Professional Women Meeting. The Bush Administration recently announced a $3 million dollar national campaign to educate consumers on how to avoid becoming victims of predatory lending when purchasing HUD homes. North American Management, a diversified service firm based in Alexandria, was awarded the one-year contract. The bilingual advertising campaign is slated for 20 cities where HUD has a significant number of homes and where the department knows predatory lending tactics are used. HUD expects the first newspaper ads to start appearing this fall.

Fishbowl, a full-service marketing company for the hospitality industry, based in Alexandria, is rolling out its new Membership Enrollment Kiosk throughout the 64-unit Steak and Ale Restaurant chain. Fishbowl's enrollment kiosk enables Steak and Ale to enroll diners in its Preferred Guest List using an easy-to-use kiosk. The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) has moved its headquarters from 1555 King St. to 400 N. Columbus St., Suite 202, Alexandria, VA 22314. All contact information remains the same: Telephone, 703-706-4600; Fax, 703-706-4663; and e-mail address, AAFCS plans to occupy the new space for two years, until it relocates permanently to Knoxville, Tenn., in August 2006. The contemplated move away from the greater-D.C. region is the first in the organization’s 95-year history. Originally founded in 1909 as the American Home Economics Association (AHEA), the organization was located in Washington, D.C., until its 1989 purchase of the building on King Street in Alexandria, where it was headquartered until now.

The Alexandria-based American Geological Institute has announced that the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography was unanimously approved by the AGI Member Society Council, as the federation’s 43rd member society.
