Reston Farmer’s Market is Coming Soon
The Reston Farmer’s Market will be back in Reston starting May 7 and running until Oct. 29 on Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The market features locally grown seasonal vegetables, fruits, berries, cut flowers, plants and baked goods. New this year, the market will also have meat, dairy and eggs. Call 703-642-0128.
“A Celebration of Women”
The Austin-Westin Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston will host “A Celebration of Women” this Mother’s Day weekend. Local women will come together to support and empower women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The event will support My Sister’s Place, a nonprofit group providing services to victims of domestic violence in the Washington, D.C., area. The event takes place May 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Austin-Westin located at 1825 Samuel Morse Drive.
"They’re Still Hungry” Food Drive
In conjunction with Reston Interfaith, the Northern Virginia University of Maryland Alumni Chapter will hold its 4th annual “They’re Still Hungry” Food Drive. The food collected will be distributed by Reston Interfaith to needy families in the area. Food will be collected Sunday, April 17, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., at Giant Food in Northpoint.
Artists Honored
Reston artists Mike Cantwell and Fae Penland Gertsch were named semi-finalists selected for inaugural Bethesda Painting Awards. Cantwell and Gertsch will compete with 38 other area artists for $14,000 in prize money at a juried competition and exhibition produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District.
Froggy Frolic at the Nature Center
The Reston Association is hosting Froggy Frolic, an event for participants to take time to look for frog eggs and tadpoles and learn about amphibians. Participants will find out where frogs live and how they hide and move. Also participants will have the chance to make a froggy craft to take home. The event is April 14, at the Walker Nature Education Center, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
