Sterling Annex Community Center, 22084 Shaw Road, is offering a hearth basket workshop with instructor Deborah Wells, Saturday, Dec. 17, from 9:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Open to ages 12 to adult. Cost is $28 for county residents and $42 for nonresidents, plus a $15 supply fee to the instructor. Preregistration required, call 703-430-6673. Artist/cartoonist Andy Farkas will teach a four-day cartooning workshop for children aged 10-14. The workshop will run Tuesday-Friday, Dec. 27-30, from 9 a.m.- noon, at the Loudoun Academy of the Arts in Leesburg.

Students will develop their own characters as well as learn about design and production. Farkas will also work individually with students to teach them how to tell their stories and how to draw their comics, cartoons and caricatures. The cost of the workshop is $130 plus $15 supply fee. Advance registration is necessary.
