Spring-Mar Cooperative Preschool hosts an Open House on Feb. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church, 10125 Lakehaven Court, Burke. Hayfield Secondary students taking anatomy and physiology recently viewed a quadruple bybass heart surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The students watched through a clear dome, looking directly down at the operation. Monitors in the room allowed a view of the surgery, while a nurse explained each step and passed around samples of the equipment being used.

Kelly McGraw and Laura Spurlock of Hayfield Secondary School recently graduated from the Fairfax County Youth Leadership Program. Established by the county’s Department of Management and Budget, participants learn about public policy issues through seminars and a three-week internship with a county agency.

Hayfield Secondary Environmental Science teachers Eli Hyman and Patty Allison have been selected to receive one of the 2004 Johnie Forte Jr. Memorial Grant Awards from the Clean Fairfax Council and the Fairfax County Department of Public Works Division of Solid Waste Collection and Recycling. The grant will cover the costs of conducting a recycling drive at Hayfield.
