Learning through Story-telling

Dylan Pritchett is a griot — a storyteller. He is presently working in a special program through the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts that has him traveling to all 50 states performing and conducting workshops for teachers.

The workshops focus on the art and culture of the storyteller — with classroom applications.

Pritchard engages his audience by asking them to listen to riddles completely — don't think just listen. Think later, he tells them at the Alexandria Black History Museum on Saturday.

He starts with a few riddles: Which is heavier, a pound of gold or a pound of cotton?

Then a second riddle has the attention of the entire audience:

Twelve pear hanging high,

twelve pear hanging low.

Twelve men came riding by.

Each took one pear.

How many pear are left?

Saturday's program was underwritten by Shiloh Baptist Church Missions Ministry. For more information on upcoming events call event line at 703-519-3391 or visit www.alexblackhistory.org
