Dear Newcomers:
Welcome To Loudoun County. What a great place you have chosen to live and make your home. I have found Loudoun to be a fun, fascinating and nurturing place as home for my husband and myself. We are blessed to live, work and play all in our community.
We have taken the time to enjoy life as well as give back to our community and hope you will do the same.
Explore the possibilities of Loudoun and its 12 towns and villages. When was the last time you visited a real village? Loudoun's roots are steeped rich in agricultural heritage; explore it at the Heritage Farm Museum. Today, we have a dozen-plus award winning wineries, 20-plus Christmas tree farms, a spring farm tour and fall farm color tour events, numerous pick-your-own farms and scenic horse country to explore.
There are park lands and reserves dedicated to nature. Discover the preserved architecture of our towns and villages; take a walking tour of Leesburg. Visit one of our plantations. There are a number of properties and even towns on the National Register of Historic Places. Our history traces to the Revolutionary War, where Loudoun played pivotal roles. Visit Balls Bluff, a Civil War battlefield and its national cemetery. Trace your roots at one of the most comprehensive genealogical library's in the United States, the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg.
We are home to some wonderful museums, including the already mentioned Heritage Farm Museum, the Loudoun Museum and the new Air and Space Museum at the Uhvar-Hazy Center. Or take a class at one of our universities. Be sure to shop our numerous art galleries and one of the many boutique gift shops around the county. Or go to the Loudoun Symphony. At the end of the day, don't forget to take in one of the many summer music concerts around the county and mark your calendar each year for the fall fair season, starting with the Loudoun County fair and ending with the Waterford Fair, having the Lucketts and Bluemont fairs in between.
Yes, there is much to take in from our rivers to the mountains. I believe our community to be a remarkable and spectacular place to live. One can easily see the reasons why we are the fastest growing county in the nation.
I encourage you to keep our county great and do something. Serve in your county, town or village. Give service to your community, help a neighbor, volunteer at a charity or join a civic group. You can make a difference by giving what ability you have. My mother and Winston Churchill both said, "You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give." Have a beautiful life.
I am proud to share my community with you; welcome and God Bless.
