Kailyn Glassmacher and Steven Wu of Fairfax were selected as delegates of the 2005 Virginia Youth Leadership Forum. They are among the 25 high school juniors and seniors selected to participate in the forum, which takes place July 11-15, at Christopher Newport University in Newport News. Sponsored by the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, the VLF helps students learn about the principles of leadership and how to be effective leaders.

Alexandra Lee has been selected to attend Governor's School for Humanities at the University of Richmond this summer. This four-week program of classes, workshops and special events is designed to encourage students' individual growth. Alexandra is a student at Fairfax High School.

James Scott Flanagan of Fairfax graduated from Hargrave Military Academy recently. Flanagan who plans to attend The Citadel this fall, is the son of Tom and Pam Flanagan.

Andrew C. Mueller has been awarded an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship. The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive tests scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, extra-curricular activities and community involvement. A 2005 graduate of W.T. Woodson High School, Mueller is the son of Maryellen and Lyle Mueller of Fairfax Station.

Hana Kang, a student at Fairhill Elementary, was one of 18 honored as an AAA Outstanding School Safety Patrol. All the recipients received a plaque for his or her courageous work and a $150 U.S. savings bond. The special luncheon, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education, took place at the Hyatt Regency Reston.
