<lst>Air National Guard Master Sgt. John E. Butcher has been decorated with the Air Force Achievement Medal. The medal is awarded to individuals for performance of meritorious service, acts of courage or other outstanding achievements or accomplishments rendered specifically on behalf of the Air Force.

Butcher distinguished himself by outstanding achievement as a member of the Base Honor Guard. The sergeant, a law office manager with 22 years of military service, is assigned to the 174 Fighter Wing, Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, N.Y.

He is the son of Janis M. Parker of Gilbert, S.C., and the brother of David F. Butcher III of Sterling.

In 1973, Butcher graduated from Broad Run High School, Ashburn, and in 1988, he received an associate degree from Community College of The Air Force. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1990 from Columbia College, Syracuse.

Air Force Airman Ryan M. Collazo has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Collazo's parents are Joe Collazo of Collazo Loop, Scottsboro, Ala., and Jaye Black of Middlebury St., Ashburn. The airman is a 2004 graduate of Stone Bridge High School, Ashburn.

<sh>Parrott, Clements to Wed

<bt>Susan Clements of Charlotte, N.C., announces the engagement of her daughter, Gianna "Gia" Marisa Clements, to Robert Lee Parrott, son of retired U.S. Air Force Col. and Mrs. Evan H. Parrott of Ashburn, and formerly of the Little Rocky Run community in Clifton. The wedding is planned for Oct. 22, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Chantilly. Clements is also the daughter of Mr. James M. Clements of Charlotte, N.C.

Clements is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Kerns of Charlotte and the late Dr. and Mrs. James M. Clements of Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in education and is pursuing her M.A. degree in political science at George Mason University. She is employed by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Company.

Parrott is the grandson of Mrs. Vera Punke, Pompano Beach, Fla., the late Aldo DiMeglio, Providence, R.I., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Evan H. Parrott Sr. of Lebanon, Ky. He is a 1995 graduate of Centreville High School. He received his B.A. degree in speech communications in 1999 from James Madison University and a M.A. in education from George Mason University in 2003. He is employed as an instructional designer for SI International.

The couple will reside in Fairfax following a wedding trip to Italy.
