Bird's the Word

Families came to see live raptors, watch wild birds and learn about conservation issues affecting birds May 14 at Happy Bird Day, an annual event at Locust Grove Nature Center. Children could get a prize by visiting five different educational stations while bird enthusiasts spotted finches, buntings, and a Pileated woodpecker and saw slideshows on Montgomery County birds. Representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Montgomery Parks Foundation, and the Second Chance Animal Shelter made presentations and talked to parents and children as part of the all-day event.
