Festival Transforms Town Green

Herndon Municipal Center's town green was taken over last weekend by the second annual Cox Hispanic Heritage Festival.

The event, which attracted residents and families from all over the area, featured many different aspects of the Hispanic culture while offering residents a chance to celebrate their heritage.

Hispanic-themed food, music, games and even arts and crafts filled the five-hour event.

The Council for the Arts of Herndon sponsored a children's section of the festival. During the day children had the opportunity to make Hispanic-centered crafts including maracas, God's eyes, paper bag ponchos and Mexican paper flowers, among other items.

For the adults, Dance With Me Studios put on a show of varying Hispanic dances, including the salsa. Attendees had the chance to watch performances and then, if they felt up to it, participate in a salsa competition.

Those not wanting to compete chose to dance to the steady musical entertainment that filled the green all afternoon.
