Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) Loudoun County Early Head Start is partnering with other community organizations to offer the DadÕs Project, a program through which fathers can join together to learn skills for being a better dad. Other community partners include Loudoun County Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program, Loudoun County Public Schools Head Start and Inova Loudoun Hospital.
The Loudoun County Community Fatherhood Initiative will run programs specifically for fathers or father figures. Services provided include parenting/education workshops; positive father/child interaction, focusing on the role and responsibilities of dads; child development, how to be a positive role model; how to provide positive discipline; and communication, managing anger, resolving conflict and negotiating relationships.
Dads who participate will meet in a relaxed setting for two hours, twice a month Ñ every other Saturday evening for four months. Lessons will fit the needs of each special group of dads, and they will learn skills on understanding how they fit into a childÕs life and how to cope with a growing family.
