Chamber Welcomes All to Mount Vernon

A greeting from Dan Rinzel, Chairman, Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce

Welcome to our community. Living in one of the many neighborhoods within Mount Vernon and Lee districts, you will find a thriving local economy, great schools and wonderful places to visit, all nestled comfortably in a hometown atmosphere.

You have chosen as your home a place rich in history and natural beauty with close proximity to our nation’s capital and national defense installations. It is a place where you can not only live, but also work and feel a sense of community.

It was here, just minutes from Washington D.C., where our nation’s history began. The history and heritage of the area are easily accessible through special events at local visitor destinations like George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, Gunston Hall, Woodlawn Plantation and the planned U.S. Army National Museum.

You can "Cruise the Corridor." Richmond Highway is America’s first highway and extends south from the Capital Beltway through the area. The corridor has many large national retailers along with smaller family-owned businesses that carry a diverse selection of products and offer services you and your family may need. Explore some of the smaller shopping centers off the main highway to find additional selections for your shopping needs.

Whether you are looking for a quick meal on the go or dining in an elegant setting, you will find it easily in Mount Vernon and Lee. From traditional colonial cuisine to a myriad of ethnic restaurants, Memphis pit barbecue to country cooking are all here.

What could be more wonderful than time spent along the shores of the Potomac River? The George Washington Memorial Parkway glides past the natural beauty for which Virginia is famous and provides many opportunities for relaxation and recreation. The Belle Haven Marina offers boating and water activities for all ages.

Fort Belvoir sits squarely in the middle of the area and is fast becoming one of the major global United States military bases and is the home of several missions vital to the national defense. The addition of planned new defense missions will only increase the importance of this facility to our area.

Mount Vernon-Lee residents know their health is in good hands. The medical care offered here is among the finest in the nation. Local facilities are always on the cutting edge of new technology, yet remain committed to ensuring that the patient’s needs always come first.

Mount Vernon-Lee is blessed with a thriving faith community that embraces many different religious persuasions. The area’s diverse family of churches also offer many activities designed to strengthen families and the community as a whole.

Whether you want history, good neighborhoods, great shopping or recreations you will find it here. Together, we can blend our area’s rich history with the exciting challenges of the future to maintain the rich quality of life we all enjoy.
