More than 500 athletes from across Northern Virginia and as far as Colorado competed last weekend in the 22nd Reston Triathlon. Even more people lined the streets to cheer participants on. The event, which is a grueling one-mile swim in Lake Audubon, a 22-mile bike ride and a 6-mile run, took place in South Reston Sunday.
Ending on the track of South Lakes High School, competitors crossed the finish line to the cheers of a large crowd gathered at the stadium.
Reston resident Stephen Smith crossed the finish line first. Other Reston residents Mike Orton and David Cascio came in second and third respectively in the men’s division. Margaret Shapiro of Annandale placed first in the women’s division.
