Welcome

<bt>Welcome to Arlington! You’ve chosen a truly special place.

Home to both booming business districts and quaint residential neighborhoods with a small-town feel, teeming with shopping centers and lively nightlife, Arlington has a little bit of everything for everyone. The county continues to attract people from across the globe, who together have created a dynamic urban environment. More than one-quarter of our residents were born outside the United States, and children in our public schools speak more than 100 languages.

Best known to visitors as the home of the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington also offers an array of established, eclectic neighborhoods with distinctive characteristics. Families are drawn to these close-knit neighborhoods and their fine public schools that rank consistently among the best in the nation.

Within the space of a few miles, Arlington offers the business centers of Crystal City, Rossyln and Ballston, treasured national monuments, the quirky liveliness of Clarendon that features some of the region’s best options for dining and nightlife, and neighborhoods defined by garden apartments, single-family homes and tree-lined streets.

They all co-exist within Arlington County, where carefully planned development, centered around public transportation, is making it easier to "live, work, shop and play … no car required," for growing numbers of residents. With 11 Metrorail stations, 25 major Metrobus and 10 neighborhood Arlington Transit (ART) bus lines, 96 percent of Arlingtonians live a short distance from a bus or subway stop. Several carsharing and taxicab companies also serve the county. For information on your many transportation options, visit www.CommuterPage.com.

Arlington isn’t just about getting to and from work. Our 89-mile network of trails and bike lanes are nationally recognized for their beauty and design and provide access and convenience that enable Arlingtonians to incorporate walking and biking as options for getting around. Our county, just 26 square miles, offers 200 public parks and playgrounds, 14 community centers, five theaters and eight libraries. I hope you’ll have the opportunity to visit them all. Visit www.arlingtonarts.org to learn about the many arts and cultural events in Arlington every month.

On behalf of the Arlington County Board and staff, we welcome you and look forward to seeing you soon!
