Lake Accotink Park

Offers trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, basketball court, boating, food stand, mini golf, volleyball court and carousel. Park open from 7 a.m. to dusk. The marina is open May through September, Monday through Friday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m., Weekends, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. No alcohol, and dogs are welcome with a leash.

Greendale Golf Course

Greendale is a 148-acre, par-70, 18-hole golf course. Greendale's facilities include a practice putting green, modern clubhouse with food service, club and power cart rentals. The course provides a challenging design with tight Bermuda fairways and several water hazards. Private golf lessons and group outing packages are also available. The course and clubhouse are accessible to people with disabilities.

Hidden Pond Nature Center

Hidden Pond has indoor exhibits, a nature trail, a pond, tot lot, playground, tennis courts and picnic shelter. A naturalist is always available during operating hours to answer questions. Abundant wildlife and extensive woodlands, along the Pohick Creek, are also features of this park. Hidden Pond is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; weekends and holidays from 12-5 p.m., and is closed on Tuesdays. It is open from 12-5 p.m. during January and February. Admission is free.

The center has an Olympic-sized, heated, indoor pool with poolside spa, saunas, locker rooms, racquetball and walleyball courts, a fitness center with Cybex VR2 equipment, dance room, and an arts and crafts room. It also has a 20,000 square foot gymnasium with basketball and a one-tenth mile running track. The surrounding park has tennis courts, a variety of ballfields, a beach volleyball court, a playground and tot lot, carousel, amphitheater and picnic areas suitable for large groups.

South Run Rec Center

South Run has a heated, indoor, 25-meter pool with a poolside spa, beach and wading area, saunas, showers and locker rooms, two racquetball and walleyball courts, fitness center with Cybex VR2 equipment and three multi-purpose rooms. South Run also operates an 18,000 square foot earth-floor field house that is available for rental for all sports and a wide variety of other activities. The surrounding park has soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, a trail connecting to Burke Lake Park, a playground with sunshade, and a dog park.

Huntley Meadows Park, the largest park in Fairfax County park authority, contains 1,428 acres of diverse habitats including wetlands, meadows and mature forest. Its animal residents include fox, deer, beaver, otter and over 200 species of birds. There is a two-thirds-mile boardwalk through the wetlands that leads to an observation tower. The park is open from dawn to dusk. The visitor center includes an auditorium and exhibit hall, and admission is free. A naturalist is always available when the center is open to answer questions. Open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., closed on Tuesdays. January-February hours are weekdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Weekend hours vary, call for information.

A fitness center overlooks the RECenter's natatorium and gymnasium. The RECenter is surrounded by multiple trails, including the Cross County Trail. Open Monday-Friday, from 5 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday, from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Sunday, from 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Starting June 19, hours are Sunday 10-9 p.m.; Saturday 12-8 p.m.; and weekdays 12:30-10 p.m. Also at Wakefield is the Wakefield Skate Park open Monday through Friday, 12:30 p.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, 12 p.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
