<sh>Register for Relay for Life
<bt>The Vienna Relay For Life will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, at Oakton High School. The relay is an overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team keeps at least one team member on the track at all times. The relay is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived.
The first Vienna Relay for Life, held last year at Madison High School, was a record-breaking event, establishing Vienna as the No. 1 Relay for Life in the Washington Metropolitan Region ever and the top rookie relay in the region, division and nationwide that year and in the history of the Relay for Life events. Vienna also was the first relay in the South Atlantic Division to have a No. 1 nationwide team — a team that has raised more than $50,000. Vienna raised over $450,000.

<sh>Leadership Nominations Open
<bt>Leadership Fairfax Inc., based in Vienna, is seeking nominations for the 2006 Northern Virginia Leadership Awards. The Northern Virginia Leadership Awards recognize individuals and organizations in the following categories:
Regional Leadership Award – recognizes an individual or organization for demonstrating leadership toward solving a regional problem in the Northern Virginia area.
Community Partnership Award – recognizes outstanding leadership in the successful creation and accomplishments of a public/private partnership.
Community Trustee Awards – three awards given to an individual, a business and a nonprofit organization that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the Northern Virginia community.
Educational Leadership Award – recognizes an individual teacher or administrator at the primary or secondary school level who has demonstrated a long-term and consistent pattern of excellent leadership in the education field.
Youth Leadership – recognizes outstanding leadership by an individual under the age of 21 whose service positively influenced the lives of young people by helping them reach their potential to become contributors in the community.

<sh>Saturday Farmers’ Market Moves
<bt>The Saturday Farmers’ Market in the parking lot behind Vienna’s Town Hall is moving. The Caboose Parking Lot, as it is popularly known, will host the market beginning on Saturday, June 3. It is hoped that with the added visibility will bring added business.
The farmers’ market features fresh fruits and vegetables from Virginia and Pennsylvania, fresh cut flowers from Great Falls and kettle corn, as well as locally made meats, breads, pastries, and dried dips and rubs. In addition, a creamery from Maryland offers milk, yogurt, cheeses, eggs and some meats. The Fairfax County Master Gardeners are also present each week to answer plant questions free of charge.

<sh>Men's Basketball League
<bt>The Men's Summer Basketball League, sponsored by the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department, runs from June 19 through Aug. 11. Two 10-team divisions will play a round-robin schedule, with the top teams from each division competing in a league championship tournament.
