The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean will hold its May Faith and Life Forums. These one-hour programs feature a speaker followed by discussion relating the topic to living one's Christian faith on a daily basis. All are welcome. Sunday, May 28, Dr. Thomas Imhoof will discuss "John Wesley and Modern Protestantism." The community is invited to the annual Church Picnic hosted by Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean, on June 11, at noon on the front lawn. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, and snow cones along with many games, and activities for the children, including a moon bounce. Dress casually and bring a blanket to sit on. The Music in McLean Concert Series Third Wednesday at One Organ Recital will be held with organist Ronald Stolk Wednesday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike McLean. “Gifts of Creation and Noah’s Ark” will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on June 25, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean, 1545 Chain Bridge Road. This service welcomes children and pet owners to celebrate God’s blessings. Pets must be on a leash and under control. Water will be provided for the pets. Emmanuel Lutheran Church offers a full range of education, music, worship and outreach programs. Sunday worship is at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Child care is available at all services. ELC is hosting Matthew Smith from Indelible Grace in concert on Saturday, June 3 at 7 p.m. for an evening of music and worship. Fiesta! Bible School is being held July 24-28. Children age 4 through grade six will enjoy a week of songs, Bible stories, crafts, outreach projects and more. Early registration (before June 1) costs $20 per child. Beginning Wednesday, June 21 and continuing every Wednesday evening throughout the summer, Emmanuel Lutheran will hold L.I.F.T. (Living in Faith Together) and Laugh, consisting of a simple meal at 6:30 p.m., a praise worship service at 7 and a fun activity at 7:30. The Spirituality of John Paul II: A retreat day of prayer, input, reflection and sharing will be held June 7, 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Dominican Retreat, 7103 Old Dominion Drive, McLean.

Mary Beth Connor Newkument, the vice-president of Lumen Catechetical Consultants of Washington, D.C. will present two dynamic conferences highlighting two major aspects of the deep spirituality of Pope John Paul II. The first focuses on his Marian devotion in “The Mystery of Mary in the Life and Papacy of John Paul II,” and the second shows his deep regard for the full development of each person in “The Dignity of the Human Person.” The retreat program day includes prayer, conferences, lunch, and mass.
