Liberty Middle School’s 2006-2007 musical is “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” the timeless fairy tale set to enchanting music and song. This production needs a large number of actors, singers and dancers. Auditions are after school on Thursday, Nov. 9, and Friday, Nov. 10.
New to Centreville High School, Touching Bases, a day for parents to meet briefly with their child’s teacher to assess first quarter progress, will be held on Friday, Nov. 10 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. All Centreville High School teachers will be seated alphabetically at tables in the atrium and cafeteria. Parents will have an opportunity to meet briefly with each of their child’s teachers to discuss the academic progress of their child during the first quarter. Under the direction of Shannon Khatcheressian, the Chantilly Drama Department will open its show season with "Big, The Musical." The show is comprised of 51 cast members, two student directors (Kate McGinnis and Leanne Williams) and 22 tech students. There will be a pit band consisting of five musicians that will be led by vocal/pit director, Molly Khatcheressian. Hypnotist Jimi Gibson is bringing "Hypnosis, The Show" to Fairfax High School Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. Through his original blend of hypnotic demonstrations and side-splitting comedy, Gibson creates a must-see event. Gibson takes 15-20 volunteers from the audience and hypnotizes them in front of everyone. Liberty Middle School's after-school program affords interested volunteers the opportunity to work with groups of middle school students in a variety of academic, enrichment, youth development, and recreational activities anytime between 3–6 p.m. daily. Charisse A. Molina of Clifton, enrolled at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, this fall. She is a graduate of National Cathedral School. Molina is the daughter of Jose Molina and Corazon Narciso-Molina of Clifton.
Morgan Coffey of Fairfax has begun her first year at Mount Holyoke College. She is the daughter of Bonnie and Patrick Coffey of Fairfax and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Among her accomplishments, Coffey was selected as a National Merit Commended Scholar, and she received several awards in the National Latin Exams. Her extracurricular activities included playing oboe in the school band, membership in the drama club and the Latin Club, and performing with the swing dance team and the Shakespeare troupe. She participated in Relay for Life and volunteered her time at a ferret shelter. She plans to pursue a course of study at Mount Holyoke that will prepare her to teach a language in a foreign country.
Daniel Saboe of Centreville High School has been selected as a 2006 Wyndham B. Blanton Scholar by the Virginia Historical Society. He participated in a Scholars Forum in Richmond designed to bring high school students together with nationally renowned history scholars for two days of lectures and seminars. Award-winning author David McCullough, who wrote 1776 and is a two-time winner of the National Book Award and a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, served as this year's guest scholar.
